Major efforts in the Vasaloppet Arena

Due to the quick weather changes with above-freezing temperatures over the past week, parts of the Vasaloppet Arena are currently very wet. The problems are most severe at the starting point in Sälen and along parts of the Sälen – Mångsbodarna stretch, especially around the first checkpoint in Smågan, where water is seeping up from the marshes and streams are overflowing. Intensive work is now underway to divert water and secure the snow supply for the weekend's races.

According to the weather forecast, sub-zero temperatures are expected at night from Wednesday until Monday. The remaining races during Vasaloppet’s winter week that cover the entire stretch from Sälen to Mora are Stafettvasan, Nattvasan 90, and Vasaloppet. ”The forecast is considered relatively reliable, so we continue to prepare the arena for the upcoming races,” says Tommy Höglund, sports director at Vasaloppet.

The upper section of the Vasaloppet Arena is closed for skiing until Friday, and work is ongoing to divert water, lay out snow, and prepare the tracks. Vasaloppet has temporarily increased its staff, who are now working in shifts to complete the necessary measures.
”We are working hard to ensure that all participants get the experience they have been looking forward to and the challenge they have trained for. The efforts we have made so far are yielding results, and we continue to work according to the plan we have set and feel confident with it,” says Tommy Höglund.
